Here’s my piece from the “Meat!” show, “Grotesque.” The work had to be meat-themed, so I painted a portrait of Tom Hanks’ wiggly hamface. Prints are available here!


Years ago I had a conversation in the Porter Dining Hall that went something like this:


Me: “I didn’t really like Unbreakable. I didn’t like how the characters explicitly stated the film’s theme, over and over again.”

Ben Raff: “Well the Indian people have a rich oral storytelling tradition, and perhaps you are unaccustomed to seeing those techniques played out on screen.”

Me: “Didn’t M. Night Shyamalan grow up in the American suburbs?”

Ben Raff: “You… you’re A GROTESQUE!”
